Install F.B. Purity - Clean Up and Customize Facebook
F.B. Purity is a browser extension / addon that lets you clean up and customise Facebook, hides the things you dont want to see, and gives you lots of extra filtering options.
Like several bazillion other users, I like using Facebook to keep tabs on what my friends are up to. What I don't like is the endless stream of "so-and-so took this quiz" and "Joe became friends with Jane" messages and "What Kind of Jedi Are You?" come-ons.
That's why I just became a fan of Facebook Purity, a browser add-on that removes those annoying quiz and application notifications from your Facebook home page.
Personally, I'm loving this add-on. Anything that cuts down Facebook clutter is a winner in my book.
To customize which stories show up, click on the "F.B. Purity" link and
select what you want hidden; the interface is extremely intuitive. Apart
from having the option to hide a multitude of stories including profile
updates and tagged photos, you can hide ...the suggestions box, sponsored
box, and the "get connected" box in the right-hand panel of the screen.
Facebook has the ability to hide unwanted applications for you, but
having all these options clearly marked in one place is very practical.
Facebook does not have the ability to hide the side-panel boxes.
The ability to hide different aspects of Facebook, while still having
the option to display them, is extremely useful. This add-on is great
for people who miss the olden days of Facebook, where cow pictures did
not show up in every other post.
F.B. Purity is compatible with the following web browsers: Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, Opera and Maxthon, running on Windows, Mac, Linux etc. Installation instructions are listed below:
Please note: Running both script and extension version of FBP at the same time will not work, so please make sure you just install one or the other. The Greasemonkey version and the Extension version of FBP have the exact same functionality.
First you need to have the Greasemonkey addon for Firefox. If you don't already have it, you can get it here: Greasemonkey
Once you have Greasemonkey installed and running you can install FBP by clicking the "Install F.B. Purity - GM Script" Button above.
Click the Green Button below to Install F.B. Purity for Google Chrome
N.B. If you are trying to update FBP and the installation doesn't work, "Right Click" on the Install button, then click "Save link as" and save the extension to your computer, then drag the downloaded extension from your computer (via the download bar, or if that doesnt work, via your computers file manager) to the extensions page (which you can access via the Chrome menu icon in the top right corner of the browser, then selecting "More tools" then "Extensions") and it should install ok.
Please note that F.B Purity is not compatible with the mobile / tablet version of Chrome, it only works on the Desktop version.
Click the Green Button below to Install F.B. Purity for Apple Safari
N.B. If Safari displays an error message when trying to install, clear your browser cache, shut your browser down completely, restart it then try the install button again.
Next: Select "Open", when asked, "Do you want to open or save this file?" (N.B. For Safari v7+ the file downloads straight to your downloads folder, and you need to open it from there)
Then Click "Install", when asked "Are you sure you want to install the extension 'F.B. Purity (Cleans up Facebook)'?"
Click the Green Button below to Install F.B. Purity for Apple Safari
You are running an old version of Safari that doesn't support extensions, sorry.
First you need to install SIMBL. Which you can get here: SIMBL
You then need to install the Greasekit addon. You can download it here: Greasekit
Once you have the SIMBL and Greasekit addons installed and running you can install the script by clicking the "Install F.B. Purity" button above. (N.B This method is no longer guaranteed to work, as the script is most likely no longer compatible with older browsers)

Next: Click the "Install" button in the dialog window that pops up
N.B If Opera won't let you install the extension, you will first need to add "www.fbpurity.com" to your browser's list of trusted websites. To do this, open "Preferences" then select the "Advanced" tab, then select "Security" then click the "Trusted Websites" button, and add "http://www.fbpurity.com" to the list of trusted websites.
Click the Green Button Below to Install F.B Purity for Opera
Next: A grey popup bar will be displayed at the top of the window saying "The extension was disabled because it is from an unknown source. Go to the extensions manager to enable it."
Click the "Go" button on the popup bar, to go to the extensions management page, then click the "Install" button beneath the greyed out entry for FB Purity to enable the extension and finish the installation.
You are running an old version of Opera that doesn't support Extensions, sorry.
Open the "Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Content > JavaScript options" menu
Select the directory where you want to store your greasemonkey scripts.
Right click and select "Save As" on the install button above, and save the script to your previously chosen directory. Make sure you do not have multiple copies of FBP in your chosen script directory as the script will stop working.
Please note, if you plan to use the script on the HTTPS version of facebook, you will need to open opera:config and enable the setting to allow user javascript to run over https

Next: Click the "Save" button in the dialog window that pops up
Next: Open the saved extension file in the download manager window, then click either the Install or Update button that is displayed to complete the installation.
You appear to be using Internet Explorer, unfortunately F.B. Purity is not and will not be made available for Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer is an unsafe browser. Why not try installing one of the web browsers that it is available for: Firefox, Chrome, Safari or Opera, seriously, you wont regret it.
If you are at work or somewhere that you don't have permission to install a new browser, perhaps you could try running a portable version of one of those browsers, that can run from a USB drive.
P.S. If you are not actually using Internet Explorer and are just "spoofing" the IE User Agent in order to disable Timeline, you just need to click the link above with the name of the actual browser you are using, and download the extension from there.
Your web browser does not appear to be one of F.B Purity's supported browsers ( Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera and Maxthon )
If you know that it is compatible with one of those browsers, for example Opera 15/16, Flock and RockMelt are compatible with the Chrome version of FBP, you are welcome to try the corresponding version of F.B. Purity via the browser links above. If your browser has a Greasemonkey compatbile extension available, you can try installing that and then install the GM Script version of F.B. Purity.
If none of those suggestions work, why not try installing one of the previously mentioned, supported browsers, you might just like it :) If you dont have installation rights to install software on your computer, you could try using a "portable" version of one of the supported browsers that you can run directly from a USB stick drive. The advantage of having it on a USB drive, is your favourite browser and custom FBP settings will go with you wherever you go.
