Sorry to those who are still waiting for a fix for the issue of Sponsored posts showing/ etc.

Sorry
to those who are still waiting for a fix for the issue of Sponsored posts showing/ etc. Unfortunately my dad got very ill and sadly passed away, so this has greatly impacted my ability to work on this project recently, so I’ve been taking a break to try and deal with this.

I did manage to release 2 updates but after he died, i didnt get round to writing the release notes etc. for them.

Basically the latest available version of FBP now is v33.4
Fixed in this version are Hiding the “Stories” box, Hiding the “Rooms” box. New options for hiding the “Events” and “News” buttons in the top nav(igation) bar. It also fixes hiding some “Sponsored Posts” that were getting through for some people (but not all). I still do not have the facebook update that completely breaks FBP, so it is still working fine on my newsfeed at hiding the Sponsored Posts etc. I am still working on getting a fix for the people with the big change, but its difficult to do until Faceobok actually release the code change to my Facebook account.

Another problem is unfortunately v33.4 of the FBP extension is not available for Firefox, due to unknown reasons (theres been no official explanation from Firefox) Apparently there is a massive hold up in the approval queue for extension updates, so it may be some weeks (its impossible to say how long) before v33.4 will become available as a Firefox extension. A couple of workarounds for this 1) Install the Tampermonkey extension, then install the GM script version of FBP. 2) Use a Chrome(ium) based browser (such as Opera or Brave for example) and install the relevant FBP extension for that browser.

I’ve not yet updated the documentation on the FBP website with the new version number for FBP, as the Firefox version is lagging behind, due to problems at Mozilla. Will get round to that soon hopefully.

Please be patient while I work through things.

Thanks,

Steve

So sorry to hear your bad news. You have no reason to apologize to the users of FBP. What you do is amazing, and I would have got rid of Facebook a long time ago if it hadn’t been for F.B.Purity.

I send you my deepest condolences. Losing a parent really forces a person to take another look at one’s values. I don’t know you, but I know losing a parent. It sucks. Good luck during the adjustment period.

    Hey Steve,

Very sorry to hear about your father’s passing. Please know that he has a son that he should be very proud of, and I’m certain he was. Please take time for yourself, your grief, and your mental health. You do this only for donations, and are entitled to a break for such a major life trauma.

We support you and thank you for your work!

    Hugs!

Sorry to hear your sad news Steve.
Over here in Scotland UK, my news feed is once again infested with ‘Sponsored’ adverts …… it’s amazing how much I just took your brilliant FBP app for granted. (and Yes, I have contributed financially to it on several occasions.)
Keep up the good work ……. without your app I would have abandoned Facebroke years ago.
    Best wishes
    Iain

Getting a ”Sorry, something went wrong” post where the newsfeed should be. Using latest version of FF. Read through some responses, deselected the ‘Most Recent’ button and tried again, which was the bug that other users were reporting. Saved and quit FF, restarted and reloaded Facebook… and the problem is still there. Any ideas? Not wild about having to slog through a ton of ads, or three-week old posts. Any ideas?

    • admin says:

The “most recent” version of the newsfeed has a specific URL, which is https://www.facebook.com/?sk=h_chr and as long as your browser has that page loaded, no matter what fbp setting is selected or even whether you have fbp enabled or installed, facebook will try and load the “most recent” version of the page. if you load the plain https://www.facebook.com URL facebook will revert back to showing “Top Posts”

  30. Steven Smith says:

I’m so sorry you lost your dad this month, Steve. I think FB is paying attention because they’re taking advantage of your time of grieving to make changes that break your extension.
I’m going to push back against them and send you a token of gratitude. Thanks for what you do.

  31. Random H. User says:

    Steve,

I have used your extension for many years. PLEASE PLEASE take as much time as you need to be with your thoughts and emotions for your father. Anyone who says else-wise does not have their priorities where they should be. Thank you for your excellent software.

  32. D. Aaron Sawyer says:

Take the time to deal with your Dad’s death, and whatever else is in your life priority queue. FBP (& its users) will wait, can wait. Thanks for keeping us posted.

Remember your Dad fondly, all his choices in this life have been made, and YOU were one of them!

    RIP, Dad
