F.B. Purity’s newsfeed filtering capability is currently broken, but never fear, a new release v38.4.0 is in the process of being published that will fix things.
A recent Facebook code change broke FBP’s Newsfeed Filtering system for many people. Facebook are rolling out the change quite rapidly now, so if it hasn’t affected you yet, it probably will reach you pretty soon. By filtering i mean hiding / blocking / filtering out posts from the Newsfeed.
Sorry for any inconvenience caused, but thats the nature of browser extensions that are tied to a site’s inner workings. If the site changes, it can break some of the extension’s functionality. In this case its mainly the newsfeed filtering capabilities that are affected, many of FBP’s other functions should still be working ok such as the “Comment Sort : All Comments ” and “Comment Sort : Newest”, the “News Sort: Feeds (Most Recent)” and “Friend Alerts”.
I know it’s frustrating — your feed may be looking messy right now, and I completely understand how annoying that can be. Rest assured: I’m aware of the problem and already investigating it.
Fixing this kind of thing takes time, so if you could bear with me and be patient, that would be incredibly appreciated.
If you appreciate all the work that goes into updating / maintaining / fixing / supporting FBP and would like to show you it, you can do so by donating via https://donate.fbpurity.com
Thanks so much for your support — I’ll keep you posted as soon as I have an update!
Might be the perfect time for a little Facebook break ☀️
Thanks very much to all the people who have supported FBP over the years, its very much appreciated!
Best Regards,
Steve
***UPDATE 15th Jan***
I managed to come up with a fix ( v38.4.0 ) I’ve pushed the GM Script version to the main install channnel at install.fbpurity.com so if you are using the GM Script version, you can update now to the new version by either reinstalling it over the top of your old version, or you can wait for it to autoupdate.
I have also uploaded the extension versions of v38.4.0 to the various browser companies (google (chrome)), firefox, opera, microsoft (edge)) for approval. Once they approve the extensions they will become available for autoupdating in your browser. Some browser companies take ages to approve updates (firefox) most other companies take a few days or so, its impossible to know exactly when they will approve the updates, so please be patient, thanks.

Thank heaps for noting that.
v38.4.0 is not working in Opera 95.0.4635.84, running on Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 and Windows 10. I get this message:
F.B.(FluffBusting)Purity
Version 38.4.0.0 by st333v
This extension may have been corrupted.
The extension is disabled. Repair does not do anything.
im aware of this issue, it looks like an error in opera’s extension approval system, im investigating. fbp is defintely not malicious. the file may be corrupted, but thats due to a mixup/bug in operas extension approval sysetm, it wont do any damage despite the ridiculous scary warning message from opera. so far google and microsoft have approved the extension, which is basically the exact same code, and you can even run chrome extensions in opera, as opera is compatible with chrome extensions. so if you want the latest version of fbp v38.4.0 you can actually install the chrome extension version via the chrome webstore.
On Opera:
“F.B.(FluffBusting)Purity
Version 38.4.0.0 by st333v
Visit extension’s website
This extension may have been corrupted.
We’ve identified this extension as malicious and have blacklisted it. This means it can no longer cause any damage to your machine. You can leave it as is, or remove it.”

Opera says “extension is corrupted” :(

I’m using Chrome v.143.0.7499.193 on Mac OS 26.2 and have uninstalled FBP and reinstalled, confirmed v. 38.4, but I’m still seeing sponsored posts. I’ve toggled the sponsored posts option off/on in v.38.4 but it still won’t go away. Was this something that was supposed to have been fixed in the latest update?
the v38.4.0 release was a fix for general newsfeed filtering, i didnt alter the hide sponsored code in this release, as the hide sponsored code is still working ok for me. it is possible facebook are testing out new sponsored post code on some people, as i am getting some reports from people saying its not hiding sponsored posts for them. is the other newsfeed filtering functionality working ok for you? is the fbp info bar showing at the top of the newsfeed? (the bit that says “F.B. Purity hide/show XX App hide/show XX Extra”)
Yes, I can filter my newsfeed, for instance, most recent is showing most recent. FBP round icon is showing on the right hand side but I’m not seeing an info bar but I have seen it in the past so I know what you are talking about. I am seeing lots of sponsored posts.
My Firefox news is flooded with USA Trump groups , Hate posts and other rubbish, but, until this fix is available, I found switching to the ‘FEEDS’ option removed all of that, leaving just my friends, family and subscribed groups. Probably going to miss a few posts until the fix arrives but at least it is useable, so FEEDS is a temp solution.
I am finding that even switching to feeds, sponsered post still popping up. Most of these are junk adverts for junk.
Its the “Suggested Posts” (aka Join/Follow posts) that are not shown on the Feeds page. I didnt say the Feeds page wouldn’t show sponsored posts.
