F.B. Purity v 38.0.2 is out now!

Just to let you know I’ve begun the publishing process for FBP V38.0,2

Unfortunately there was a bug in the v38.0 release that I missed when testing. Basically this release separates out the Hide Suggested Posts option from the Hide Sponsored Box/Posts option, whereas in previous versions the functionality of both hiding suggested posts and sponsored posts was all under a single option “Hide Sponsored Box/ Posts”

I thought i had made the “Hide Suggested Posts” option turned on by default, but early reports from users with the update let me know there was a bug in the logic, and if you updated to v38 from an older version of FBP, the hide suggested posts option would be turned off. If you do have FBP v38 and are suffering from seeing lots of suggested posts “Join” / “Follow” posts etc, then open the FBP options screen and tick the HideSuggested Posts” option, then click “Save and Close“. FBP v38.0.2 which should fix that issue.

Another thing to be aware of with this release is I have added a new “Host” permission, which basically means as well as being able to run on facebook.com it can now also run onĀ  fbpurity.com. The reason I needed to add this was so I could query fbpurity.com for the latest FBP news updates. In most browsers if an updated extension has certain new permission types (Such as the host permission) the browser disables the extension until the user acknowledges and agrees to the new permission/s being enabled, so you may find fbp has suddenly become disabled when your version of FBP updates to v38.0.2 You can fix it via the browser’s extensions management page (re-enable the extension and approve the permission change)

Now thats the breaking stuff out of the way, i can explain the fixed stuff and new stuff.

  • New “Allow List” function, works similarly to the Text Filter, but instead of filtering out posts, it shows posts featuring the text you
specify (i.e. if the word/s you specify in the Allow List show up in a post, FBP will stop processing its usual filters and show the post)
  • Fixed and renamed the Friends Whitelist feature, its now called the “Friend Allow List“. The “Friend Allow List” works similarly to the “Allow List” but it has a built in widget that lets you easily add people from your Friends list to the “Allow List”. Basically if your Friends name from your Friends Allow List shows up in a post, the post will be “allowed” to be shown meaning all other filters will be overridden.
  • New Hide Suggested Posts option ( I separated this functionality out from the hide sponsored posts option ) This will mean you can turn this option off to see all those “join” / “follow” posts if you like them, but still want to have the “Sponsored posts” hidden.
  • Fixed the “Hide Auto Tag Suggestions” option. (It stops facebook adding tags to things while you are typing comments unless you actually first type an @ symbol)
  • Fixed the “Clear Ad Prefs” / Interests button on the https://www.facebook.com/adpreferences/?section=interests page and the Ad Topics page https://accountscenter.facebook.com/ad_preferences/ad_topics

So if you don’t have FBP v38 just yet, dont worry, the publishing process can take a few days, as some of the browser companies are slower at approving extension updates than others. Your version of FBP should autoupdate at some point when it becomes available for your browser.

Sorry for all the text, i know people hate reading long technical texts on facebook, but I needed to explain some of the issues people were facing with this release.

Hi! After years of loyal service, FBP no longer hides sponsored posts from me (Chrome vers 139.0.7258.155 and FBP vers 38.0.2.0). Help!
