- Fixed Story filtering, which was broken due to a Facebook code change.
- You can hide the new Facebook Action (aka frictionless sharing) stories by ticking the "hide read an article (FB Actions)" option. This will let you hide stories like "read an article", "watched a film", "listened to a song", "played a game" etc.

Meta story match error fixed. Extra story filtering still not working though
The meta-data outage that has stopped the FBP extra filters from working for a lot of people, is still ongoing, though weirdly some people are not affected by it, and fbp continues to work fine. This leads me to believe its possible its just a bug on facebook's part and they might restart sending the meta-data out at some point, so i've held off on releasing a full update of FBP. Another reason for holding off on it, is its going to be a lot of work to fix it, as without the meta-data it means I will have to use the actual text of each post to determine what the content is, which will lead to lots of headaches, as facebook is available in over 40 different languages, which means the text that identifies a post as a "like" or as a "is now friends" will be different for each language fb uses for its interface.
I did get to the bottom of the popup error that occurs for people with the Firefox extension version of FBP, and have uploaded a fixed version. It also fixes the visible frame around the ticker box, if you have chosen to hide the ticker bar. Just clear your browser cache and then reinstall from http://install.fbpurity.com for the fixed version.
There is also a workaround for getting the extra filters to work, you basically need to use the "Custom Text Filter" and put the text that recurs in the post types that you want to filter out, into the Custom Text Filter, and it should filter out most of the junk you dont want to see. See the troubleshooting section of the FAQ for more info on that.
I will be waiting and watching further developments of the Facebook interface, and also researching the best way to deal with this new change, in case it is indeed a permanent one.

I've released a new version of FB Purity, the Facebook homepage cleaner Extension / script for Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari and Opera.
Changes
- Adds "delete recent activity" button to your profile page
- "App + extra" filtering (and Whitelisting and Blocking of apps) now works on profile pages as well as your homepage
- Added delete friend request button.
- Enables full screen button for youtube videos.
- Moved the FBP information bar below the compose window.

Please note that the extras filtering for profile pages, is not fully functional yet, as the story IDs for profile pages are slightly different to the ones on the homepage, so i need to investigate that a bit more. Please also note the Delete Recent Activity button sometimes doesnt show up in Firefox 4 unless you reload your profile page.

First of all I would like to say a big thank you to all the F.B Purity supporters out there, especially those few kind people who have donated to the cause, thanks also to those who have helped spread the word about FBP over the last year or so. Its been a tough year for FBP, what with all the changes FB keep making to the interface, and also the trauma of the previous FB Purity page deletion, and threats of legal action from Facebook.

Changes:

If FB Purity is acting weirdly, e.g displaying the "2 versions of fbp running" error when theres only 1 installed
An investigation into the error that a few FBP users were experiencing, where they would receive the script collision error message, "You appear to be running 2 versions of FBP", even though they only had one version of FBP installed, revealed a solution to the problem.
Basically it seems its AVG antivirus interfering with the Facebook page, causing posts to appear twice and also to make the script run twice, which causes the previously mentioned error.
The solution is to uninstall AVG antivirus, install Avast antivirus instead, as it doesnt interfere with other programs so much, and doesnt slow the computer or use up so many resources.

I've updated FBPurity , the Facebook homepage cleaner script / extension for Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari and Opera to add some new features and also fix an annoying problem some users were facing
- Added the following new hideable extras "Uploaded Photo","Uploaded Video","Tagged in Video","Posted Note","Tagged in Note","Posted Link"
- Added Export and Import Settings functionality, see the FAQ for more details on that.
- I've fixed the problem some people were seeing when they cleared the cookies in Firefox and lost their FBP settings.
- The script now adds "Block App" and "Allow" links to "started using app/game" type messages

F.B Purity Script Update v3.5 - hides "started using app/game" messages, adds custom text filter identifier

F.B Purity extension now available for Safari 5
I've created a F.B Purity Safari extension that is compatible with Safari 5, which simplifies the installation process a great deal, as you no longer need to install a Greasemonkey script interpreter. If you have F.B Purity running as a script in Greasekit or NinjaKit and want to try out the new extension, you should first disable or uninstall the FBP script version.

Script Update - v3.3 - New Extra: Hide "Changed Location" (Facebook Places new geolocation feature)
For those in the USA and anyone else who are seeing messages from the new Facebook Places geolocation feature in their feeds, where people can "check in" at real world locations via Facebook on their mobile devices. Ive added a new hideable "Extra" called "Checked in to location" if you tick this option in the FBP options screen, it will hide those posts. If you are not yet seeing these posts, Facebook probably hasnt yet launched this feature in your area yet, so theres no need to update your version of the script just yet. For those that do want to be able to hide these types of posts.
BTW its worth having a look at the new privacy settings regarding this new Facebook feature, Wired have an article about it here.

Great news for Safari5 users, new NinjaKit greasemonkey extension (replaces Greasekit)
Great news for Safari 5 users! A new extension called NinjaKit lets you install greasemonkey scripts.
Its a much simpler process to install than Greasekit as it doesnt require SIMBL, the extension is self contained and is also PC + Mac compatible, once you have installed Ninjakit you can then click on any greasemonkey script link to install them.

To install NinjaKit you just need to click the "Safari for NinjaKit" link (Please note the extension link wont work in the translated page, you need to click it in the original page) Once you’ve installed that you can then install any greasemonkey script you like, of course not all will be compatible but a lot should be.
It works great with Fluff Busting Purity, I also successfully tested it with two of my Flickr scripts : Multi Group Sender and Flickr PM.

The fbpurity.com domain suffered a DNS outage yesterday which meant the site was not working properly, so I spent the day moving the domain to a new DNS server and also fixing all the links on the site to work with the new settings. If you are having problems accessing the site today, you may need to wait a few hours before the DNS changes reach you.

Facebook seem to be rolling out a site code change today, which means the script will be broken for some people.
The changes havent yet reached me, so the script is still working here, but thanks to Jocke, who sent me an example of the new homepage code, Ive been able to create a patched version which works with the new version of the site.

Facebook Shut down the F.B. Purity fan page
So they finally sent me an email to actually tell me the real reason they wanted to delete the Fluff Busting Purity Fan Page (which had over 5,040 fans at the time of deletion) and minutes after they sent me the email they actually deleted it! Talk about short notice!! I am furious!

*Update* Just after i uploaded this post, i received an email from Facebooks lawyers. The contents are quite bizarre. They are claiming I own the domain facebookplus.org and they are saying i should hand the domain over to them. I have nothing to do with that domain!! ridiculous!!!

One click whitelisting of applications is now possible by clicking the "Allow" link which has been added above application messages, next to the "Block App" link. Clicking "Allow" will automatically add that application to your Whitelist.
You can also now turn off the "Connect with friends" box, via the new checkbox on the Options screen
Install Fluff Busting Purity v2.8

The options screen lets you edit the list of "Extra" stories you wish to hide, edit the list of Applications you want to allow to display messages on your homepage, edit the Custom Text Filter, which lets you block words or phrases from your news stream, and also lets you choose whether or not you want the Suggestions Box hidden.
This means you no longer need to edit the script itself to change these options, and also that the changes you make to the options will be saved each time you upgrade the script.
You can access the options screen by clicking the "F.B. Purity" link in the F.B. Purity bar at the top of your facebook homepage.
N.B. Important info: If you are not using the most up to date version of your web browser, the Options/Settings screen introduced in v2.7 will not work, as it utilises functionality that was only introduced to web browsers quite recently. If you cannot upgrade your browser for some reason, you can get the previous version of the script here: facebook.purity-v2.5a.user.js

Heres the lowdown on the changes in the latest version and how they affect you
The custom text filter is controlled by the
var textfilterlist = "" ;
variable. You can put a comma separated list of words or phrases between the quotation marks that you don't want to see in your newsfeeds.
For example, say you wanted to hide all posts that mentioned "FarmityVillage", you would edit the textfilterlist variable like so:
var textfilterlist = "FarmityVillage" ;
If you also wanted to hide the phrase "Go boston raiders" you would add a comma and then the text, like so:
var textfilterlist = "FarmityVillage,Go boston raiders" ;
etc. (the code should all be on one line, its wrapping here, due to column width)
The application whitelist is now split into 2 separate variables. "userappwhitelist" and "defaultappwhitelist" if you want to whitelist some applications, you should from now on put the application ids in the userappwhitelist variable.
