F.B Purity Update v7.5.0 - Adds a single column Timeline layout view option, Fixes BA+WL links, also adds Block Application links to Facebook applications pages + more
Changes in FB Purity v7.5.0
- Added a Single Column Timeline layout option (You can activate it with the green "TL" button next to the search box or via the FBP options screen)
- Re-added the ability to filter out "FB Actions/Frictionless sharing apps" (ticking hide "read an article" will now also activate hiding other "frictionless sharing" apps)
- Fixed news article redirects for Trending Articles stories
- Fixed the hide trending articles box option
- Fixed "BA" (Block Application) and "WL" (Whitelist) links on application posts in the newsfeed
- Added "Block Application" link to the bottom left of all facebook application pages

In other news, Facebook are still blocking links to the fbpurity.com website, and claiming fbpurity.com is a spammy and unsafe website, this claim is ludicrous, and actually libellous!
As most readers will already know, FB Purity is a highly rated and respected, and completely safe facebook antispam and customisation tool.
Claiming that "F.B. Purity" is "unsafe and spammy" is libelous, and should not be allowed. F.B Purity is no such thing, you just need to check out the glowing reviews its received in the press such as in the Washington Post, Lifehacker, CNET, PCWorld, and the over 70,000 happy uers the tool has worldwide. You can also check out any online antivirus scanner or website reputation checking tool to see that F.B. Purity is compltely safe.
It is actually Facebook that is the spammy and unsafe website, F.B. Purity is a tool that tries and cleans up Facebook's mess. Yet all they do is try and sabotage F.B. Purity at every turn, by doing things such as disabling the Developer of F.B. Puritys personal facebook account and disabling the F.B. Purity Fan page: http://facebook.com/fluffbustingpurity for long periods of time, without any warning, explanation or apology.

FB Purity's Timeline Disabling Feature has stopped working, due to a code change at Facebook.
Bad news for timeline haters. It looks as though Facebook have patched the loophole, that allowed the disabling of Timeline in your browser, by changing the browser's useragent to IE7. Theres not much I can do about that unfortunately. Future versions of FB Purity will need to be developed that give an option to restyle the Timeline to an easier to use format. This is going to take a lot of time to develop.

Facebook are now blocking links to fbpurity.com and have also deleted most images from the FBP Fan Page!
Facebook's latest sabotage attempt against FB Purity is that they are now blocking everybody from posting any links to fbpurity.com claiming that its a spammy or abusive website. When in fact the opposite is true, F.B. Purity actually cleans up the spam on Facebook!
Facebook's latest sabotage attempt against FB Purity is to without warning or explanation ( as seems to be their sneaky and underhand policy ) deleted most of the images from this FBP fan page, i wonder what they have planned next...
The proof that fbpurity DOT com is a safe site is easy to find, just ask any long term FB Purity user, or if you dont believe them, just look up fbpurity DOT com on any of the following website security / safety sites:

F.B Purity Update v7.0.0 - Improved timeline disabling especially in Chrome. Also adds a fix for news article redirection.
Changes in FB Purity v7.0.0
- Added a Disable Timeline button "TL" at the end of the URL bar for Chrome users, to make it easier for Chrome users to disable/enable Timeline in their browser. The Timeline disabling button for Google Chrome is now built into the extension, so you no longer have to run a bat file to set the User Agent to IE7. The advantage of this new feature is that it only switches the User Agent to IE7 when you are on the Facebook website. For all other websites it will use its normal User Agent, so other sites should work fine when you have got Timeline disabled.
- Improved the glitch fixing for all browsers when spoofing IE7 in the process of disabling Timeline.
- Added an option to stop news article links in "read an article" stories from redirecting via Facebook applications. This option is called "Fix news article redirects" and its just above the "Sort Feed: Most Recent" option on the FBP options screen. If FBP cant fix the link to the article, it adds a "google this story" link that lets you look the story up via Google.
- I've also updated some of the "extra" filters so they should work better. Please note that if you have your Facebook interface set to a language other than English, FBP's built in "extra" filtering functionality will not work, so you will either need to switch your Facebook interface to English, or else, put your own Custom Text phrases that you want to filter out in your own language into FBP's Custom Text Filter box.

Facebook have made another code change, that has stopped FB Purity's newsfeed filtering from working properly
Due to a Facebook code change, FB Purity's newsfeed filtering has stopped working properly. This means at present stories are being filtered out that shouldnt be filtered out. Im working on a fix, please be patient, thanks.

The Delete Recent Activity Button has stopped working due to a Facebook Code Change
Due to a Facebook code change, FB Purity's "Delete Recent Activity" button has stopped working. The force newsfeed to be sorted by "Most Recent" functionality has also stopped working due to a Facebook code change, I will need to investigate these issues and then come up with a solution in order to fix this functionality, please be patient.

Great News! Facebook have re-enabled my personal account today! :)
I'm very happy to announce that Facebook have relented and re-enabled my personal account, and the F.B. Purity Fan page should be back up and running in a couple of days too. I first need to know exactly what their problem with it is as they still havent told me, instead they are just referring me to their "Statement of Rights and Responsibilities", and saying i violated in some unspecified way... which means i will need to investigate this further, to find out exactly what their problem is. But if the way i was treated on Facebook is anything to go by, it seems we the users of Facebook have very few rights indeed...

Without warning, Facebook have disabled the F.B. Purity Fan Page which had over 36,000 fans and they have also disabled my own personal Facebook account
With no warning at all, and with no explanation, Facebook disabled the F.B. Purity fan page and my personal Facebook account today at around 4pm GMT on Thursday 16th February.
The future of FB Purity is now up in the air, as without a Facebook account it makes it hard for me to continue development of the FB Purity extension.
The FB Purity Fan page has now moved to Google Plus, which can be accessed via the following shortcut : http://gplus.to/fbpurity

Meta story match error fixed. Extra story filtering still not working though
The meta-data outage that has stopped the FBP extra filters from working for a lot of people, is still ongoing, though weirdly some people are not affected by it, and fbp continues to work fine. This leads me to believe its possible its just a bug on facebook's part and they might restart sending the meta-data out at some point, so i've held off on releasing a full update of FBP. Another reason for holding off on it, is its going to be a lot of work to fix it, as without the meta-data it means I will have to use the actual text of each post to determine what the content is, which will lead to lots of headaches, as facebook is available in over 40 different languages, which means the text that identifies a post as a "like" or as a "is now friends" will be different for each language fb uses for its interface.
I did get to the bottom of the popup error that occurs for people with the Firefox extension version of FBP, and have uploaded a fixed version. It also fixes the visible frame around the ticker box, if you have chosen to hide the ticker bar. Just clear your browser cache and then reinstall from http://install.fbpurity.com for the fixed version.
There is also a workaround for getting the extra filters to work, you basically need to use the "Custom Text Filter" and put the text that recurs in the post types that you want to filter out, into the Custom Text Filter, and it should filter out most of the junk you dont want to see. See the troubleshooting section of the FAQ for more info on that.
I will be waiting and watching further developments of the Facebook interface, and also researching the best way to deal with this new change, in case it is indeed a permanent one.

I've released a new version of FB Purity, the Facebook homepage cleaner Extension / script for Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari and Opera.
Changes
- Adds "delete recent activity" button to your profile page
- "App + extra" filtering (and Whitelisting and Blocking of apps) now works on profile pages as well as your homepage
- Added delete friend request button.
- Enables full screen button for youtube videos.
- Moved the FBP information bar below the compose window.
- New extra option to filter recent activity on profile pages
- Improved the "block all apps on the page" functiontionality
- Added nokia N900,and Ovi by Nokia to default app whitelist.
Please note that the extras filtering for profile pages, is not fully functional yet, as the story IDs for profile pages are slightly different to the ones on the homepage, so i need to investigate that a bit more. Please also note the Delete Recent Activity button sometimes doesnt show up in Firefox 4 unless you reload your profile page.

First of all I would like to say a big thank you to all the F.B Purity supporters out there, especially those few kind people who have donated to the cause, thanks also to those who have helped spread the word about FBP over the last year or so. Its been a tough year for FBP, what with all the changes FB keep making to the interface, and also the trauma of the previous FB Purity page deletion, and threats of legal action from Facebook.
I've updated F.B. Purity, the Facebook homepage cleaning, browser extension / GM Script for Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari and Opera.
Changes:
- Fixed intermittent app/extra filter bug
- Fixed autoplay of videos when toggling show/hide apps/extras
- The hide sponsored box option now hides even more ads
- Fixed bug with "started using app" previously it didnt check if app was in whitelist
- Added seesmic to default application whitelist

Due to a Facebook code change on 21st Dec, FBP is not currently working properly
Due to a change in Facebook's code, FBP is not working 100% correctly, the show/hide apps+extras filters are broken, im currently working on a fix, please be patient. Thanks.

- Updated so "Hide Sponsored Box" option now hides the sponsored box in a few more places. Please note this option doesnt work across the whole site, it only works on pages that have a ads container with a specific, consistent identifiable ID.

If FB Purity is acting weirdly, e.g displaying the "2 versions of fbp running" error when theres only 1 installed
An investigation into the error that a few FBP users were experiencing, where they would receive the script collision error message, "You appear to be running 2 versions of FBP", even though they only had one version of FBP installed, revealed a solution to the problem.
Basically it seems its AVG antivirus interfering with the Facebook page, causing posts to appear twice and also to make the script run twice, which causes the previously mentioned error.
The solution is to uninstall AVG antivirus, install Avast antivirus instead, as it doesnt interfere with other programs so much, and doesnt slow the computer or use up so many resources.
